Now you can check traffic fines through internet
22-11-2010Finally the Traffic Department has found that citizens who have not been able to be notified of a traffic ticket at their home address are completely helpless when the traffic department proceeds to publish the notice in the Gazette for that Province. And it is obvious that drivers do not spend the day reading the BOP to see if we have fines or not, without a doubt we have more important things to do!
Once published in the BOP the penalty ends up directly via an "embargo" on the current bank account of the "unsuspecting" driver who had no idea that the fine had been placed. And then, and we at CYCLO know this well, it is frankly very difficult to find out information regarding the fine: car, place, date, reason, etc ... Obviously, by the time we get the embargo the time to appeal has elapsed and the fine is firm as well as amount of the embargo, it's not only the fine but all the surcharges on top, which we will have no possibility to recover.
It looks to the DGT has been "sensible" enough to detect this situation and will put in place a website called TESTRA that is dated to begin on Thursday, the 25th of November, where drivers can see if they have outstanding fines by introducing their NIE or DNI number.
However, as well of the Testro system, the DGT launches DEV (meaning direct e-mail address) consisting of the obligation for companies to supply an email address to the DGT in which fines, notices of all types, proximity the expiration of the ITV or Mandatory Insurance, etc. can be received. Individuals can register voluntarily if they so wish.
Once the system is put in place and we see how it functions in reality, we will let you know through our news letters. In the mean time, we are at your disposal if you require any clarifications on this matter.
