New social security allowance

As of 01.01.2010, parents with minor children with cancer or other disease in need for long term hospitalization, are entitled to a benefit from the Social Security of the amount equal to 100% of sick leave and proportional to the reduced hours since it is designed for those couples in which one must spend part of all day taking care of their child who suffers a severe illness.

This benefit will last for the duration of hospitalization and the continued treatment or until the child reaches adult age, and then only one of the two parents can opt for this benefit and only in the case that both of them are working.
