Change. Foreigners' Assistance in Spain.
Exchanging a foreign licence for a Spanish licence.
Driving licences can be exchanged only if issued in:
1. Countries of the European Union
2. Other European countries (Andorra, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Croatia, Liechtenstein)
3. Countries with which Spain has signed an agreement of this type. Agreements have been signed with the following countries: South Korea, Japan, Algeria, Morocco, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Dominican Republic, Paraguay and Bolivia.
Requirements:
- Holder of legal age to drive in Spain.
- The licence to be exchanged must have been obtained in one of the above countries or through the exchange of another issued in any of those countries.
- In order to exchange a non-EU driving licence, the licence must have been obtained prior to the holder being registered as a resident in Spain.
Exchange of European driving licences:
- Valid driving licence to be exchanged.
- ID card or document demonstrating residency in Spain, Residency Card or EU Citizen Registration Certificate (the new residency document which replaced the Residency Card formerly issued), and passport - this is important and it must be current.
- 2 passport-size photos
- Psycho-technical medical certificate; at the medical centre where you undergo the examination you must provide your current driving licence and 2 passport-size photos.
- Municipal Registration Certificate as proof of address.
